It’s day number 82…….but what in the world does that mean to you. Let’s go back and start over some time ago. About 23 years ago, I was in my senior year of college and getting ready to explore the world. When a man entered my life and forever changed it. He was the type of guy that was never getting married nor having kids. However, from the first time hanging out with him, I knew it was going to be different. We dated and moved our lives around for almost 3 years, before we got married. Our wedding day was amazing. Married in Vegas with just our parents there with us. It was great. Not a lot of people, not a lot of fuss and for me nothing to worry about but myself. Because let me tell you, if I had had a big wedding, I would have been worried about every single detail even past the day of the wedding.
Our married life was simple. A house was being built when we were dating so we moved there with unmatching hand-me-down furniture. I feel like it was the most amazing time of our lives. Getting to know each other more, building a foundation for what was to come and just being young and having fun. Our first son came in January, 2008. It was amazing. He was a jaundiced baby so we have to do things at home for that. I finally started back to work and he was diagnosed with RSV at 3 months old. Given the circumstances, I ended up quitting work due to a poor situation.
That house held everything we had. So many memories and firsts happened in that house. So much love in 4 walls. It was amazing just being there and changing things up as our oldest got older. Finally, he was six AND…pregnant with number 2. Both boys and so super busy. We wouldn’t have it any other way! Two healthy boys for the most part growing up in the country and small town living. It was complete heaven for all of us.
Time moves on so quickly and we will get us closer to today. I was looking for a change of jobs. Everywhere I looked I saw accounting degree needed. I had started my accounting degree and figured I might as well finish that degree. So back to school I went. While that was happening, I had been asked to manage the restaurant/bar, I was working at. I agreed and it was definitely a change of life for the good. I graduated in December with my accounting degree and I had already gotten my bachelors degree in hotel, restaurant and tourism management. I drove about 40 minutes to get to work one way but was loving every minute of the change in businesses. I eventually was talking to someone else and they started talking about leasing my own business in another building. So eventually, this was the right move to do.
I HAD my own business. Something I had been dreaming of since college and getting my bachelor’s degree. I put up with working for other people but found it so much more rewarding working and doing for myself and our family. It wasn’t a huge building but I definitely made it my own. Brand new kitchen, new coolers, new furniture and SO many people it was great. Then the unimaginable happened.
